Job Summary

The Hardware Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, validating, and documenting high-quality printed circuit boards (PCBs) for embedded electronic systems. The role includes schematic design, PCB layout, component selection, signal integrity analysis, prototype support, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable, manufacturable, and high-performance hardware solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop multilayer PCB layouts using industry-standard EDA tools (e.g., Altium Designer), ensuring optimal signal integrity, power distribution, thermal management, and mechanical compatibility.
  • Create, interpret, and review electronic schematics and system architectures to develop PCB designs that meet functional, performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Select and optimize electronic components and their placement considering electrical performance, thermal characteristics, manufacturability, cost, availability, and product lifecycle.
  • Apply best practices for signal integrity, power integrity, high-speed routing, and EMC/EMI compliance to ensure robust and reliable hardware performance.
  • Design PCBs following Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Testability (DFT) principles, while coordinating with manufacturing partners to support efficient production.
  • Support prototype fabrication, board bring-up, hardware debugging, troubleshooting, validation testing, and resolution of design-related issues throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including schematics, PCB layout files, Bills of Materials (BOMs), fabrication and assembly files, engineering change documentation, and configuration records.
  • Ensure designs comply with IPC standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational quality procedures by participating in design reviews, failure analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with hardware, firmware, FPGA, mechanical, manufacturing, procurement, and project management teams to support product development from concept through production.
  • Stay abreast of emerging PCB design technologies, electronic components, industry standards, and engineering best practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

Education:

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognised institution.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in PCB design and hardware development.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in PCB design and schematic capture tools, preferably Altium Designer.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design principles.
  • Experience in multilayer PCB design, signal integrity, power integrity, high-speed routing, and EMC/EMI mitigation techniques.
  • Familiarity with PCB fabrication, assembly processes, IPC standards, and DFM/DFA/DFT practices.
  • Knowledge of microcontrollers, microprocessors, communication interfaces (UART, SPI, I²C, USB, Ethernet), and embedded hardware design.
  • Experience with FPGA and/or ASIC design is an added advantage.

Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to quality.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
